Better Options, At Last!

01 December 2009

Just when I thought everything will go downhill, I heard a DZMM report that DICK GORDON and BAYANI FERNANDO will run for President and Vice President as a tandem! I suddenly felt relieved. I didn’t believe it at first so I googled it the instant I got on-line and here’s what I got:
“MANILA - Sen. Richard Gordon and former Metro Manila Development Authority chairman Bayani Fernando on Tuesday said they are running as president and vice-president in the 2010 elections under a new party, the Bagumbayan Volunteers for a New Philippines Party.
The two are set to file their certificates of candidacy at the Commission on Elections office in Intramuros, Manila. (ABS-CBN)”
All I can say is: SA WAKAS!

We can’t discount the capability of other candidates and I’m sure that some of them are more knowledgeable and better “leaders” than Gordon and Fernando. But if there is such a thing as “pana-panahon lang”, I say, no time and situation is more fitting for these two to be our leaders.

Just a few months ago, I wrote the post “GAY CHICKENS” where I cited Gordon and Fernando as the only two leaders that have the political will to do what really needs to be done, unafraid of losing votes. I also said in another post "Dick for President" that I will campaign for Gordon if he runs for President. May dilang anghel yata ako.

Their methods may sometimes be harsh and too “straight forward”, but with the kind of undisciplined and apathetic citizens we have now, no leaders are best capable to instill discipline than these two. And I think most of the people who oppose them are the ones who know that their days are numbered once these two are handed the reins.

We have seen how these two operate. They have faced countless oppositions doing the right thing, we let those who oppose them do all the talking even if majority of us agree on what they do. We just stay apathetic because we, even in occasional instances, have broken a simple law like jay walking. We already need to wake up from apathy. We need only to look at Marikina and the FORT in Taguig to see what discipline can do.

Their partnership would be the quintessence of the mantra: “Think Global, Act Local”. They are two of the few leaders who are pro-active and forward thinking. They’re actions are preventive rather than reactive. And I believe their vision would lift this country in this sorry state. We need leaders who enforce the law. We need leaders who focus on maintaining and improving what we ALREADY have and follow through on changes they have initiated. We have no need of the “ningas-kugon” types. Magaling lang sa umpisa, tapos papabayaan na. Kapag nakunan na ng camera, sisibat na.

We have enjoyed too much freedom in this country, a freedom most of us consider as a “do-whatever-you-like” freedom devoid of any personal responsibility. We need this to stop. And we need leaders who embody this freedom, in its true and responsible form.

I don’t expect you to agree with me on this. All I’m offering is a responsible choice. A better and timely option.

VOTE WISELY. PLEASE.
